Lawyers Forge Death Certificates to Defeat Justice

On December 4, 2014 Hon. Justice Lawrence Gidudu, the Deputy Head\r\nof the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala, revealed that some unscrupulous\r\nlawyers forge death certificates of criminal suspects they represent in order\r\nto help them escape prosecution. He made the revelation in Kampala during one\r\nof the activities organized by the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) to mark\r\nthe Anti-Corruption Week.

The Hon. Judge said his court had in the recent past\r\nexperienced two incidents of this nature before warning fellow judicial\r\nofficers to be on the lookout for similar schemes hatched by lawyers to defeat\r\njustice. In criminal law, once a suspect dies, the case automatically\r\nabates (closes) even if it was pending judgment.

Inspector General of Government, Hon. Lady Justice Irene\r\nMulyagonja thanked JLOS for showing determination as the country continues to fight\r\ncorruption.
\r\nThe theme for this\r\nyear’s Anti-Corruption Week is: "Accelerating the fight against corruption: a\r\ncollective responsibility”.
